Two Japanese members of the Lower House, Mr. Kozo Watanabe and Mr. Toshihiro Nika received state decoration ‘Dato Seri Laila Jasa’ (DSLJ) during His Majesty the Sultan’s 66th Birthday celebrations. Mr. Ken Kobayashi, CEO of Mitsubishi Corporation was also awarded the DSLJ title.

  • A total of 4,140 Japanese tourists visited Brunei in 2011.

Agreements/MOUs signed

  • 20 September 2011 – MOU between MIPR and Mitsubishi Corporation to improve farm management and research better cultivation techniques.
  • 26 May 2011 – Inaugural of Tenaga Suria Solar Plant in the Belait district which was built by Mitsubishi Corporation.
  • 16 February 2011 – MOU between the National Cancer Centre of Brunei Darussalam and Southern Tohoku General Hospital in exploring the use of cancer treatment, Proton Therapy.
  • November 2005 – Agreement on the Brunei Methanol Project.
  • 18 June 2007 – The Brunei – Japan Economic Partnership Agreement.
  • 13 August 2008 – The Tenaga Suria Project / Photovoltaic Project.
  • 20 January 2009 – Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation.
